Looking Back From Your Future
(From
Adventures with Guided Imagery: Using Your Mind and
Imagination to Nurture Skills and Master Life by Sue
Stevenson)
Imagine that you
can float above your Life. Perhaps you can notice your
past in one direction and your future in another direction.
Slowly float out into your future. You can float as
far into your future as you wish. Imagine that you can
then look back over your Life from the perspective of an
older you. As you look back over the past what would
you observe? What were you able to learn? What
challenges were you able to overcome? What remained a
challenge? What would you have done differently?
As that older you, look back again from your future towards
now. Consider what you want to notice in your Life
between the present and where you stand in the future.
What does that older you want to see as you look over your
Life? What do you want to have done? What do you
need to see in your Life in order to be satisfied and happy?
What would you want your priorities to have been? What
do you want to have resolved? From this unique
perspective you can notice what a satisfying life would look
like to you. You can also notice the smaller steps you
took in your Life to get to your future.
Now you can float back to the present moment in your Life.
Perhaps you have a clearer sense about what awaits you in
the future and what you can do in order to be satisfied with
your Life.
